Teńsai - A Naruto Fanfic - CHAPTER 1

Okami: Hey everyone! Say hi, Kori!
Kori: *glares*
Okami: ... At least wave or nod or something...
Kori: *glares*
Okami: Don't you ever stop glaring?!
Kori: ... *glares*
Okami: *sighs* Okay. You're not going to say hi, are you?
Kori: *glares*
Okami: Fine! I'll just get on with the story without you, then!
Kori: *glares and walks off*
Okami: Sorry about that, everyone! He's being a bastard again. *dodges flaming kunai thrown by Sushi-Seaweed-Hair*... Here's the blah-stuff for ya!

SUMMARY: It was supposed to be a simple mission... Well, simple for a B-rank, anyway - deliver a scroll to the Hidden Rain Village in return for a Konoha Jounin. But when the Rain leader decides to change his mind, the mission turns into a disaster for Naruto. What will the consequences be?

DISCLAIMER: Naruto and it's characters, Jutsus, locations and scenarios belong to the wonderful genius: Masashi Kishimoto. I own Moya-san, and certain bits of other characters such as Kouryo-teme and the ANBU who get their asses kicked XD

Some of these won't be in the story yet, but here they are anyway!

--FLASHBACK--

Naruto arrived perfectly on time at the gates of the Rain Village, as did the leader of said village, with several of his ANBU and the kidnapped Konoha Jounin. No-one spoke, until Naruto held out the scroll. With an evil grin, the Rain leader laughed at Naruto and called him a fool. The blond ignored the insult, but couldn't hide his anger when the man insulted Tsunade and Konoha. At a small gesture, the ANBU stepped forward, each holding a wicked-looking Katana.
Naruto grimaced slightly: he knew this would happen. He held the leader's gaze, and spoke quietly, but clearly.
"I presume you have had second thoughts about our agreement, Kouryo-san?" It was a statement rather than a question, and Kouryo laughed again, and confirmed it. "Then I apologise for what is about to happen." That got a raised eyebrow from Kouryo. The Jounin was stood behind him, despair on his face - he wasn't going home. A sigh escaped Naruto's lips, and he lowered one hand, keeping the scroll in the air with the other.
No-one moved. Even the breeze seemed to have stopped as they watched each other. Then at some unseen signal that none other but those about to engage in battle could sense, the blond Konoha Shinobe dashed forward to meet the Rain ANBU. As he moved, Naruto placed the sealed scroll back in his pocket with one hand, whilst making single-handed signs with the other.
A brief flash, and a Katana appeared in his hand, longer than those of the ANBU and obviously sharper. The masked Shinobi hesitated for less than a second before attacking their opponent. They saw no hand-signs, and heard no Jutsu intoned, but they were suddenly surrounded by Narutos, all identical. Thinking they were normal clones - illusions - the ANBU continued moving towards where the first Naruto had been. Had been. There was a gap in the circle. Naruto was gone.
Several curses came from the ANBU, and then, as one, the circle of Narutos surged forward. The first ANBU that was encoutered realised their mistake several seconds too late - they weren't normal clones; they were Shadow Clones. Real bodies. The other ANBU also noticed this and began a counter-attack.
The Jounin watched wide-eyed as the ANBU sliced at their opponents, and noticed with a quiet gasp that when they were hit, the Shadow Clones didn't disappear. Instead, they carried on fighting, their injuries visibly healing. They obviously contained an extremely large amount of Chakra, and he felt a stab of hope.
When they had appeared, each clone had been carrying a Katana, but now several of them had been disarmed. One of the clones was stabbed through the heart, and just before it hit the ground, it disappeared in a cloud of smoke. All of the other Narutos grimaced at the same time, and as one, attacked the ANBU again. This time, two more clones fell and disappeared, but three of the eight ANBU also collapsed, barely breathing.
The Konoha Jounin noticed that the Naruto Clones didn't want to kill the ANBU, just stop them, and it built his hope. If Naruto didn't kill them, then Rain could not raise a case against him. Even if he did kill them, it would be justified - it was Kouryo that broke the agreement anyway. As he watched, another Anbu fell, along with four more clones. Now there were four ANBU and three Naruto. The Jounin sighed in resignation - it seemed there was no chance now. He let his mind wander, replaying his best memories, remembering the faces he would never see again. A sudden tap on his shoulder broke him out of his thoughts, and he turned to see a Naruto behind him. The blond grabbed his katana and cut the ropes binding the Jounin's wrists. At the blond's gesture for silence, he took the necklace the younger ninja held out, and out it around his neck. He immediately felt lighter, and his surroundings became slightly distorted. An invisibility Jutsu.
He followed the blond around the edge of the fight and into the forest, niticing that they made no noise what-so-ever. He followed Naruto for a few minutes, and suddenly, they came to a clearing where there were two tents set up, and an unlit fire. He could hear the sound of a stream somewhere nearby. Naruto motioned for him to take the necklace off, still not speaking. After taking the charm back, the blond seemed to concentrate a moment, then opened his mouth.
"You're safe now, Moya-san." The Jounin inclined his head in thanks and understanding. "The green tent is yours. You may do whatever you wish, but I ask you to remain in the clearing, where I can see you." Moya nodded again, and wondered why the blond's voice was different to before, when they met at the gates. He had a theory, and voiced it.
"Are you the real Naruto, or a Shadow Clone?" The blond just smiled grimly, and averted his eyes.
"We're all real." He paused. "But the original Naruto is back at the gates." Moya's eyes widened; the young shinobi was still fighting. He could be killed, and he said so. "Don't worry." The Shadow Clone chuckled darkly. "If he dies, one of the Shadow Clones become real in every aspect, and takes his place. His memories and knowledge are transferred, as well as his abilities... And the Kyuubi no Kitsune." Moya was only slightly consoled. "Now, I suggest you change your clothes and eat something. Then rest. We head for Konoha as soon as possible." Moya nodded and headed for the green tent.

-- Back at the battle --

The real Naruto watched out of the corner of his eye as one of his clones and Moya-san escaped to the camp he had set up back in the forest. Now the Jounin would be safe. When he has cast 'Kage Bunshin no Jutsu', the ANBU had looked around at the new Narutos briefly. The blond had used the distraction to step to the right, taking a place in the circle and giving the impression that he was another Shadow Clone, and the real Naruto had disappeared. The tactic had worked.
So far, the only injuries he had sustained were a few shallow cuts from the Katanas and Kunai, and some bruises. He ducked as an ANBU swung at him again, and shot out a leg to sweep the masked ninja's feet out from under him. The man fell, and a moment later was unconscious and near death thanks to Naruto's skill with a Kunai, and knowledge of the Human Anatomy. At the same time, his last two fighting clones disappeared due to being effectively killed.
Three ANBU. One Naruto. Reasonable odds.
Using his Katana, Naruto blocked most of the incoming blows, but even he couldn't avoid some of them, and small cuts appeared all over his body. It was a few minutes before he managed to subdue two of the ANBU. They collapsed to the ground, and Naruto faced off against the last masked Shinobi. There was a white band around his upper arm, meaning he was an ANBU Captain. 'That explains how he survived so long...'
They both paused for a couple of seconds, just watching each other. They moved together, mirroring each others' moves perfectly. Then they attacked each other. Several clashes and blows later, the ANBU Captain lay on the ground. Naruto turned to Kouryo, sighing. He slowly walked over to the Rain leader, who backed up by a few steps, then glanced behind himself.
"Moya-san's gone, if that's what you're looking for." Kouryo looked startled, and stared as Naruto pulled a scroll from a pocket on his trousers, and held it out. He was confused, and Naruto sighed again. "Just because you tried to break the agreement doesn't mean I will. I've taken Moya-san home, so here's the specailk scroll you requested in return. I suggest you take it and leave." Kouryo grabbed the scroll, but then hesitated to leave. Naruto wordlessly and motionlessly created another Shadow Clone, to persuade the man. He took the hint, and took off, back through the gates and into the Village. Naruto sighed yet again.
A sudden movement behind him made him turn, Katana raised for both defense and offence. The ANBU Captain had stood up, and was lunging towards the blond, Katana raised for an overhead blow. There was no time to think - Naruto twisted his blade and held it at right angles to his body, aiming for the ANBU's heart. The man couldn't stop in time and his body became impaled on the stained blade. At the same time, his own Katana came down at an angle, not close enough to kill, but enough to do major damage.
Naruto just stared at the man for a moment, blood starting to run down his face, pain blooming from his face to the rest of his body, everything rapidly growing dark. The ANBU's mask shattered and fell off, revealing his face. He coughed, blood flowing over his lips to drip down his chin. He smiled, somewhat gently.
"You really are a prodigy." He coughed again, feeling his life slipping away. "To have fought so well and won... I'm truly sorry for taking your sight... Naruto Uzumaki..." The ANBU Captain slumped forward, eyes glazing over, breath halting, and Naruto knew the man was dead. He felt a hand on his shoulder, and the world suddenly rushed back to him. The pain became clear, and he screamed with the force of it. He heard a mutter as he collapsed to his knees on the ground, and felt several more Shadow Clones come into existence. Several pairs of hands gently touched his body, making him lie down on the bloodied earth, then a single hand was placed over his burning eyes. Chakra started flowing into the ocean-blue orbs, but Naruto knew, even as Kyuubi's Chakra joined in the healing, that his sight was lost. He felt the pain take him under, and passed out...

Why is it that everyone kills off their favourite characters? What is the appeal I wonder? Well obviously, it's that you write it so well.

Come to think of it, I just hurt their backs or give them colds. Angsty angsty angsty! :p
